The Artist
Since childhood, Kathy Nay has always shown a talent and interest in drawing and painting, but she did not begin to seriously develop this talent until later in life. She was drawn to the medium of watercolor and has studied various techniques and methods with artist Cheryl Fortier. Kathy's paintings are recognized for their clear, clean colors and dramatic lights and darks. She has participated in many juried and group shows and has won several awards. Kathy's works can be found in private, corporate, and public collections. She is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, the Fort Langley Artists Group, and the Garibaldi Art Club. Sharing her knowledge and love of art with her students, Kathy gives instruction in her studio as well as doing demonstrations and workshops for various art groups.
Although Kathy is primarily a watercolor artist, she does use other mediums such as acrylics, colored pencil, and pastels. This artist is able to capture a sense of time and place by using a limited palette and light and shadow. Light is the inspiration for Kathy's paintings-the way it creates shapes and patterns, dramatizes colors, highlights nature's beauty, and creates a certain mood. She wants to draw the viewer into her paintings to be able to experience that moment in time.
